WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 14 - SUNDAY, MARCH 25
TIME: 6:30 PM weekly service on Wednesdays
LOCATION: The Holy Christian Church International
We will commence the first day of Lent with our Lenten Midweek Service at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, February 14. We encourage EVERYONE to come and feel free to invite guests for this time of consecration. As we focus on seeking Christ through fervent prayer, His Word, and repentance let’s trust Him for complete wholeness, healing, strength, and to possess His heart in all things. Nothing about these 40 days should feel nor remotely look like the life we were living outside of this season rather, it should look like and BE a consecration and dedication to the LORD. You should feel and be set apart!
We are calling the Church to observe the Lent Season of 2018 in a special and memorable way. Lent is derived from the Anglo-Saxon words lencten, meaning ‘Spring’, and lenctentid meaning ‘Springtide’ and ‘March’ (the month). Historically it is a time of prayer, fasting, repentance, and flesh mortifying for forty days leading up to Easter. It mimics or replicates the 40 days our LORD was led of the Holy Spirit into the wilderness for a time of fasting. We know that in 325 AD, the Council of Nicea mentions a 40-day Lenten season which tells us it was in existence prior to the 4th Century. (Pointedly, it’s NOT a Roman Catholic invention rather a historic Christian Church practice.) This time of sacrifice was a Spiritual preparation for the highest Christian Holy day of the year, Easter.
We are calling the Church to observe this time in the following way:
Commit to Fasting (totally from food) from sun up to sun down on Wednesdays and Fridays. Comprehensively for the 40 days, we’re calling for everyone to abstain from any foods consumption that’s damaging your body—the Temple of the Holy Spirit (you be the judge as to what this looks like for you).
Commit to Praying the Lord’s prayer, as written in Matthew 6:9-13, three times per day (Morning, Noon, Evening)
Commit to Attending a Lent Season Service every Wednesday Evening at 6:30 PM
Commit to Reading through the Scriptures, completing one of the following goals (of which we will provide a daily reading schedule for those who need it)
Read through the entirety of the Bible, Old and New Testaments, in 40 days
Read through the entirety of the New Testament in 40 days
Commit to Fellowship in your home (or at another’s dwelling) with the brothers and sisters of the faith. Pray, discuss the Word, confess your faults, Minister to one another, and engage in edifying activities.
Fasting always gets GOD’s attention and causes Him to act when the praying soul is humble. Fasting breaks yokes and destroys the power of satan. Fasting is a proven Biblical model for expediting GOD’s help when in trouble, deliverance from evil, and healing of sickness or disease in one’s body. Let’s have faith for GOD to move mountains and do MARVELOUS things in our lives!
Fasting also yields humility and an ear to hear His voice. May you identify with our LORD’s passion by wholeheartedly embracing this Lenten season of consecrated fasting, prayer, Scripture reading, repentance, and fellowship. May He in turn give you revival, refreshing, renewed strength in Him coupled with power over all the works of your flesh and of the devil. Amen!
